A serene Swedish home in white and wood

I'm writing today's post from a candlelit cafe by the sea here in Southern Sweden.  It's barely daylight and there's a storm raging over the sea. It's feels so cosy to be tucked up inside! Contrary to the weather outside, this Gothenburg space is a picture of calm. I love the black, white, grey, and wood theme with touches of brass. One item that stands out in particular is the vintage brass drinks trolley used as a side table in the sitting room. I could batten down the hatches and ride out a storm in this lovely apartment, how about you?

Stadshem
So lovely don't you think? Anything that stands out to you?

A few items I know and love: Muuto E27 pendant light, svenskt tenn elefant place mats, HAY DLM table, HAY dots cushion, Sheepskin rug, HAY dots cushion, Thonet 214 chair. Granit industrial mail sorter. Lamino easy chair in graphite. You can source lovely prints from Elina Dahl (free shipping within Sweden until Christmas, available to worldwide).

See more, beautiful serene spaces here, here and here. Or escape the stormy winter weather by transporting yourself to a boho abode in Mexico, or a Brazilian escape with a pool. *Yes.Please*.

I think it's time for one of those hot chocolates with whipped cream and cinnamon I talked about yesterday, don't you?

Have a lovely day!

The cosy and relaxed home of a Norwegian blogger

Well hello there! It was a long time since I showed a Norwegian home, too long I'd say. So I thought you might like today's home tour for two reason: firstly it will introduce you to a wonderful Norwegian blog: Marsipan og Smilefjes (unless of course you already follow it?) and secondly these images taken by the blog author Marthe of her own home which she shares with Rasmus, Mathea and Anna will make you feel like you're right there in a her relaxed cosy white and wood house in Norway. So lovely, don't you think?

What a beautiful home don't you think?! I love the touch of pastel (although I'm a 'hot' colour wannabe I'm a real pastel girl at heart, how about you?).

Other bloggers homes I love include the Norwegian home of Elisabeth heier, the serene home of a Swedish fashion blogger and the home of a Danish fashion blogger. If you're up for a little more inspiration today you can always have a fun snoop around the Norwegian home tours I've shown here previously (scroll passed this one as it will come up first).

I hope you have a lovely day!

A Dutch home in a former children's nursery

One of the best things about arriving home after holidays is feeling inspired to make changes to the home (at least I do, how about you?!). Today I feel inspired by this Dutch home photographed by Jansje Klazinga for VT Wonen (shared with kind permission). The space is in a converted children's nursery and the family have made maximum use of every detail, cleverly using the wood beams in the eaves as shelving for an office space. As with all the Dutch homes I show on here, I absolutely love the white with the pops of colour, especially in the dining room.

For more pics of this home take a peek here.

I love the different colour chairs around the dining table - the light grey and dark grey ones (this Autumn's colour) which are broken off by a zesty yellow one. Very cool and easily done with a lick of paint. Anything that stands out to you?

The use of wood reminds me a little of another fabulous Dutch home I once showed here.

Thank you so much to Jansje for the kind permission to share these images. I had the pleasure of meeting Jansje a few months back when she photographed my home (images currently for sale).

I hope you have a lovely Wednesday!

A converted merchant builder's garage in Melbourne

Hello Monday! And what a rainy one it is here in Sweden too. But that's OK - I've got a wonderful studio home tour to brighten up our mornings. Designed by interior architects Hearth, this space in Melbourne, Australia has been transformed from a merchant builder's garage into a spacious and light home with views out over the gum trees. Many of the pieces you see including the windows, doors, bench tops, lighting and even the sink were salvaged second hand. Which just goes to show you don't need to spend a fortune to have a fabulous home.

It's incredible what you can do with a small space isn't it? But is this your type of interior?

You can find more small space apartment inspiration here, here and here (such clever solutions!).

Oh and I published a rare post on Saturday featuring an a-ma-zing Swedish home-tour (I would hate for you to miss it!!). And next Saturday I have such an exciting give-away on here open to you all - I can't disclose the prize just yet but I can say that it's made from classic Danish craftsmanship with a cheeky twist! Ooooo, intriguing.....?!

I hope you have a wonderful start to the week and see you tomorrow!

House for Mother

Good morning! I hope you had a lovely weekend (and enjoyed my rare Sunday home tour). It's so gloomy here in Southern Sweden today but it's OK because I've a beautiful project to share! 'House For Mother' (great name?), is the brainchild of Förstberg Arkitektur as their contribution to the Linköpingsbo 2017 housing exhibition. While the outside will be constructed of raw corrugated aluminium, the inside will be designed using exposed timber and walls lined with plywood to add warmth. This is definitely going to be categorised under my 'fabulous architecture' label! What do you reckon?

I'm a big fan of plywood (more inspiration from this, this and this home) although I  haven't channeled this in my own home. How about you?

Oh and I love the Bumling lamp, featured in House for Mother (had to repeat the name as it's so lovely) in white.

I hope you have a wonderful start to the week!

The serene white and wood home of an architect

Hello Monday! I hope you had a great weekend?! Sometimes it's so great to realise that the most beautiful interiors are often also the most simple (and small!).  The Barcelona home of architect and graphic designer Marina Senabre Roca, is the perfect example of this and such great inspiration for compact living. Marina has stuck to a serene white and wood combination throughout her one room apartment which creates a feeling of space and a beautiful oasis in the midst of one of Spain's most vibrant cities.

So beautiful don't you think? You can read more about Marina's home over at the lovely blog Lua Nord.

I've learnt never to underestimate how much plants can add to a home. Whether it's foliage brought in from the garden and placed in a simple glass vase or fresh spring flowers in a riot of colours, plants can do wonders to a space. Do you have a favourite house plant or bunch of flowers for this time of the year? My favourites can be found here (but most importantly I need greenery which doesn't mind being a tad thirsty......!).

This Malmö home is another wonderful example of how plants have been added to a white and wood inspired home to create a beautiful living space. I also love this, this and this scandinavian home.

Could you stick to this palette?

Have a lovely Monday!

A stunning Dutch home blending old and new. And give-away winner....

Hello! I hope you had a wonderful weekend? I ended last week with a Dutch home tour and this week I'll start with one too (talk about going Dutch!). This one hundred year old farmhouse owned by Rosemarijn van Zandvoort of Skattejakt (check out her beautiful shop and blog) has been carefully restored using a blend of old and new. I think the old world rustic charm of the beams and wooden floor against the Scandinavian blonde wood and white walls (and a touch of poured concrete) looks truly fantastic, how about you?

l often look around my open plan sitting room and dining room area and think I have thrown together to many different types of wood. But when I see Rosemarijn's home it gives me confidence that everything doesn't need to match. How about you?

Try here for stunning aged / reclaimed wood floors.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful entries into last week's give-away to win a Ferm Living Candleholder String from Nest. I wish you all could have won, it was so much fun reading your lovely comments. I am excited to announce the winner: Bene Artuphel please send me a mail with your address so we can organise the shipment.

Have a lovely Monday!

Cosy sitting room the Norwegian way

There's a distinctive chill in the air here in Southern Sweden (how about where you are?) and I've noticed people are starting to get out their cosy knits BRRRRR! When I feel a nip in the air it always makes me romanticise about long walks in the snow followed by a steaming cup of hot chocolate (with a touch of rum) while thawing feet by the fire. This sitting room from the home of Norwegian blogger and photographer Elisabeth Heier is a firm favourite - just look at that wood burning stove and log storage!

Elisabeth Heier with kind permission

I love the hall way too - I think that's a House Doctor rug - beautiful!

I'm a big fan of Elisabeth's styling and photography (as you well know!) and have posted on her home before here and here. So beautiful!

If you're on the look out for wood burning stoves as I am check out these homes....

PS I loved the discussion on Facebook yesterday on 'all white homes' so many different opinions!

Have a lovely, cosy day!
