Suvi's inspirational Finnish sitting room

Morning! Oooo, I feel much better after my duvet day yesterday :) I also loved all the comments and discussions over the single or double duvets. I thought it was only in Scandinavia couples used two single duvets on a double duvet but it seems this is more widespread than I first thought! So interesting! Today I'm turning to North East Scandinavia and am excited to share some shots of the very cool sitting room from the Finnish home of Suvi of Valkoinen Harmaja blog. Everything is so nicely put together but what stands out to me most are the cushions (and how they match the artwork) and the fabulous IKEA tea trolley which Suvi has updated. How about you?

I spy so many great pieces: a tea trolley which Suvi has created using an IKEA find (see post here) (similar one by Artek here). Cushions: Svenskt tenn 'elefant print' cushion, Missoni and Flow from By Lassen.  A Tom Dixon Beat Light Fat, Eames Armchair RAR (15% discount with code MYSCAN) and Stokke Tripp Trapp children's chair to name but a few. Am I missing any key items?!

What a great space? Suvi's blog is well worth a look through, not least to see her very cool cat which wonders in and out of shots!

Have a lovely day!

Estilo rural y sencillo / Simple and Country Style

Tengo una debilidad por el estilo rural y sencillo con  una ligera tendencia  vintage, donde los
colores suaves  y neutros en combinación con la madera natural, cautivan con sus  ambientes
 ligeros, relajados y luminosos

Wardrobe Wednesday // Kate Spade Sale

Hi there!  I'm excited to share with you a great deal I scored on a new summer bag!  I have gotten very comfortable running around with my cross-body bag, but I did want something a bit bigger, still lightweight (that I could keep organized), like a cross between a tote and a satchel, so I could carry around more stuff when I need to.  I looked everywhere, and finally found a great one on sale (half off) at Kate Spade.  And turns out Kate Spade is offering an additional 25% off all Sale items until July 6, 2014 with code MORESALE.

My find is the black and white striped Kate Spade Flatiron Nylon Maryanne.  It retails for $198, but is on sale for $99, and then take an additional 25% off, combined with free shipping, and my total came to $80.36! :)  It also comes in solid black or red & white (which I almost chose). My favorite part is all the compartments inside so I can keep things organized.

I just ordered mine on Sunday night, so I'm still waiting for it to arrive.  They have lots of other great bags, clothing, and accessories on sale too!

Duvet day, the perfect bedroom

When I lived in London the agency I worked for allowed us five duvet days a year. This meant we could just be 'off' without any real reason other than that we wanted to crawl back under our duvet for the day and stay there. Years later I still think about that duvet day and the beauty behind the idea. And if I were to take one, it would be here, in this beautiful bedroom. Oh the power of pictures against an all white backdrop. Could you spend a 'duvet day' here?!

For more wonderful 'duvet day' inspiration, you might want to check out the bedrooms here, here and here! Oh and here's my bedroom back at home (captured by my great friend Karin who has just had a little baby boy...congratulations! :)

My two favourite beddings: The Fold jersey sheets, duvet covers and pillows from The Beach House Company (trust me, it's like sleeping in your favourite t-shirt) and this linen bedding.

For the cutest children's bedrooms inspiration how about this Finnish bedroom, a girls room in earthy greens and dusty pinks and one of my all time favourites: a vintage inspired little girls bedroom.

Lie-in, relax and have a lovely (duvet?) day!

PS did you know that in Scandinavia it's customary to have two single duvets on a double bed?!

La esencia del estilo mediterráneo/ The essence of Mediterranean style

Blogger Spotlight // Kristi Murphy

Through one of my favorite pastimes, Pinterest, I stumbled upon Kristi Murphy's blog over the weekend.  Kristi is a lifestyle expert featuring brilliant and creative DIY projects that are completely doable and inexpensive.  Her designs have been featured on Lauren Conrad's blog, Shutterfly, and Brit + Co. to name a few.  I'm happy to continue to spread the word as women who do excellent creative work inspire me to get out of my comfort zone and keep exploring my own creative pursuits.  Most of my energy lately has gone into getting in shape and preparing for a fitness competition, but now that it's almost over, I'm looking forward to getting back to homey-things.  After spending time at Kristi Murphy, I'm getting all excited for future home projects and have some new ideas brewing. . .

Below are just a few of my favorite projects from her site.  You can check out Kristi's DIY Gallery HERE for many more gorgeous posts.  I think you'll agree that her photography is stunning too.

This is the pin that brought me to Kristi's blog.  A DIY taxidermy coat hanger.  I'll take that scarf too please!

How about this cool acrylic TV tray she modeled after the pricey CB2 version.  The store version cost $149 and hers was $60, but with thinner acrylic, it could be made for $30!

She turned a beach chair into a chic leather sling back chair.  She bought a leather couch at Goodwill for $25 for the leather fabric! Genius!

Considering my love of stripes and gold, these DIY candles are right up my alley!  The project may be super simple (to me the easier the better!) but her styling and photography put it over the edge.

What do you think?  Are you as impressed as I am?!  Hope you stop by and visit Kristi Murphy. :)

Si's serene San Francisco home

Everyone has blogs they go back to time and time again and one of my favourite is French By Design. French born Si has such wonderful taste and always shows inspires me her posts. It's no wonder her own home in San Francisco is absolutely beautiful. I love the neautral tones in monochrome, cognac and wood, it creates such a calm home, don't you agree?

The home is teeming with fabulous designer pieces. Si has a great post listing where you can find all the items here. I love the rugs....a trip to Morrocco is long overdue now! Perhaps this Autumn?

Thank you so much to Si for allowing me to share the lovely pics of your home!

I could live here, could you?!
