Duvet day in this beautiful Swedish bedroom?!

Hello! And a big ciao to all wonderful new Italian readers too! It's still as grey as ever here in southern Sweden and what I really feel like doing is spending the day in bed reading. Ha! Fine chance! Which is probably why I chose this Swedish apartment for today's home tour - the light filled master bedroom is definitely the star of the show! it's beautiful! The little girl's room is incredibly cute too.  Could you spend the day here?!

Stadshem

The thing I like the most about the master bedroom (yes, I'm still thinking about it...) is that they clearly have a large wardrobe in the little girls room for clothes and yet they still have an open rail for the prettiest clothes (or tomorrow's clothes?) in the bedroom which looks fab. Also, I like the way they've hung the art photography off centre over the bed. And finally a shelf incorporated into a headboard is a great way to do away with bedside tables for a cleaner look.

Some fab pieces from the apartment I know and love: RAR rocking chair in the little girls bedroom with a cosy sheepskin throw and Harlequin wallpaper. String shelves in black. Flos 265 wall light in the dining area. HAY Polygon throw and linen bedding in charcoal. Eames DSR chairs in white and black.

Anything that caught your eye?

More fabulous bedroom inspiration here, here and here with the addition of my bedroom here. And could you IMAGINE sleeping here?!

Must-have bedroom accessory right now: this moroccan pom pom throw (as seen on SF Girl By Bay).

Have a lovely day!

Beautiful Dutch bedroom make-over

Hi, I hope you had a great weekend? Oh how I love a room make-over - especially when it's of the white floor variety! Over the weekend i came across this bedroom re-vamp is the work of Holly Marder, interior stylist, designer and the blogger extraordinaire behind Avenue Lifestyle. I love the entire look - from the light and bright airy feel, the grey bedding, the scissor reading lamp and open wardrobes. What a tremendous make-over?! Duvet day number two here perhaps?!!

Holly Marder, Avenue Lifestyle Blog

If you have a moment you must check out the before and after pictures here - just goes to show what you can do with a lick of paint and an incredible sense of style!

For more of Holly's styling check out this colourful Dutch home, this bright Dutch home and a lovely summer cottage. *Sigh* so fab!

PS loved the comments and discussions on whether you use a double or single duvet - give your two-pennies worth here...

Before I head off (literally - we're embarking on a 1700 km road trip with the girls this afternoon, eeek - wish us luck!!) I am delighted to introduce a new sponsor, Cosette.  Cosette or 'little thing' in French creates  and sells jewellery inspired by minimalism, simplicity and fun geometric shapes. Each piece is handmade and crafted with love by Canadian born Fai who now lives in Japan. I love this ring and these arrow stud earrings ...how about you?!

Have a great start to the week and see you Wednesday!

Duvet day, the perfect bedroom

When I lived in London the agency I worked for allowed us five duvet days a year. This meant we could just be 'off' without any real reason other than that we wanted to crawl back under our duvet for the day and stay there. Years later I still think about that duvet day and the beauty behind the idea. And if I were to take one, it would be here, in this beautiful bedroom. Oh the power of pictures against an all white backdrop. Could you spend a 'duvet day' here?!

For more wonderful 'duvet day' inspiration, you might want to check out the bedrooms here, here and here! Oh and here's my bedroom back at home (captured by my great friend Karin who has just had a little baby boy...congratulations! :)

My two favourite beddings: The Fold jersey sheets, duvet covers and pillows from The Beach House Company (trust me, it's like sleeping in your favourite t-shirt) and this linen bedding.

For the cutest children's bedrooms inspiration how about this Finnish bedroom, a girls room in earthy greens and dusty pinks and one of my all time favourites: a vintage inspired little girls bedroom.

Lie-in, relax and have a lovely (duvet?) day!

PS did you know that in Scandinavia it's customary to have two single duvets on a double bed?!

Natalie's oh so cosy and beautiful bedroom

Morning! I was chatting with a friend yesterday who happened to grow up in the same south coast village as the idyllic fisherman's cottage I showed yesterday. As children they used to say the house was haunted! I'm really curious to know whether you believe in haunted houses or ghosts? I was thinking about it and if I was hanging out in the house in the day time I probably wouldn't think about it. But if I were to sleep a night alone my imagination might just start getting the better of me?! How about you? I'm sure however, that if I slept a night in this bedroom below belonging to Natalie of hey natalie jean blog, I might just sleep like a baby....

Hey Natalie Jean. With kind permission.

I spy (because we definitely need to know where things in this beautiful bedroom are from): swiss dot bedding from West Elm (sold out sadly).  A Tasseltry by Hackwith Design House (I've never seen one of these before - they're designed according to the ancient idea of bringing warmth and beauty to a space). Bamboo lamp (on floor), Pia Wallen cross blanket. The rug is from ebay (according to Natalie this is the best place to find a Turkish kilim). And you can pick up a sheepskin from black sheep (white light).

Read more about Natalie's beautiful bedroom and where she sourced items from here, if you'd like.

Oh and I have an exciting new sponsor to introduce to you. Illori is a newly launched online store owned by Kim Ronnerfors, an artist and interior designer with Scandinavian roots (love the store already!). The shop specialises in minimalist pieces with an international influence. I already have my eye on one the bowls and soft knitted blankets, how about you?

Have a lovely day!

Our Sitting Room // New Wingchair

How good do you feel when you score a really great item at an affordable price?  And when that item is a piece of furniture purchased over the Internet, without the benefit of an in-person inspection, isn't it even better?  I feel that way about a wingback chair I found on Overstock a few months ago.  It works perfectly in our master sitting area and is actually pretty comfy.

It's a pretty cream color with silver nailhead trim along the bottom and sides.  I think it goes great with the rug and coffee table I moved upstairs.

I only ordered one initially, to make sure I liked it in person, but I'm thinking a pair would work well in this space.  This is where I go to watch "Mom TV" alone or sometimes chat on the phone from this spot.  I've had it styled different ways, with different side tables, sometimes a lamp.

I love to have fresh flowers here and Whole Foods is such a great place for gorgeous flowers.

*Update- Ah! Need to switch up the chair legs- so funny!

My home captured by karin: bedroom

I hope you had a lovely weekend? I loved all your comments here and on Facebook about where you'd transport your house for the weekend! I stayed right here at home this weekend so I thought it'd be apt to show the second part in my mini series: my 'My home captured by Karin'. This is my bedroom. We've only recently moved up stairs to the top floor (from this room) and I am so happy we did. I love the high ceiling, floor to ceiling windows and balcony, it all feels so bright and airy.

Karin Björklund

So many pieces I'm not sure where to start on the 'I spy' front! Chinese stools: Lovely & Company, Gold bedside table lamp: vintage, Wall light: Hay, knitted throw and linen bedding: H&M Home, Peacock chair: flee market find, Book shelves: DIY by my husband, plant, plant pot and pendant light: IKEA. Picture behind bed side table: Muuto designed by All The Way To Paris.

My bedroom is not really finished, the next step is a lovely new rug to keep us toasty this Autumn / Winter. Any tips?

PS If you're up for a great give-away today, enter here to win a fab Lee Broom Crystal Table Lamp (hurry, you need to enter by midnight tonight!). I don't know why I'm telling you, I'm hoping to win it myself!!

Have a lovely Monday!

Big Boy Room Paint

I hope you all enjoyed a nice long weekend!  I made some progress on my son's room, including changing up the wall color and adding a colored ceiling.  You might remember his nursery walls were light blue "Blissful Blue" by Sherwin Williams and the ceiling was "Divine White" also by Sherwin Williams.

Now, he's got darker walls "Indi-go-go" by Benjamin Moore (color matched at Sherwin Williams) and a light blue ceiling "Honest Blue" by Sherwin Williams.  There is a Sherwin Williams near my house, so that's where I get all my paint.

Below are the paint formulas if you're interested.  I can't wait to get his bed (should be delivered this week) and drapes (backordered until late June!).

James' Room // West Elm Shower Curtain into Drapes

For James' room, I wanted wide horizontal blue and white striped drapes, and made them from a West Elm Shower Curtain.  The color is called dusty navy and the material is 100% cotton.  Three problems: 1) I prefer a rod pocket as opposed to the way it's meant to hang on hooks, 2) it's too short for the room at 74x72 inches, and 3) it's not lined.

I'm no seamstress, but I figured I could try what Amanda Carol did and buy three curtains, and use the third one for added length.  She chose the gorgeous grey and white for her office.

Here are how my blue and white drapes turned out in James' room after I lined and hemmed them.

For the lining, I figured I'd use a lightweight fabric shower curtain liner so the width would match and it would be less expensive than fabric.  They do not cover the length of the drapes, just about below the window sill.

I simply stitched them along the top of the drapes, just below the rod pocket I made by folding over about 4 inches of fabric on top.

I used white rope and an inexpensive wall hook as a tie back so the room can still receive lots of sunlight.  On the picture below, you can also see where I added the extra fabric to the drapes.  I tried to line up the stripes so the width of the stripes would be about the same, but it's not perfect.  Also, I should have used blue thread so you couldn't see the seam as well.

I ordered these curtains from the store and they were on backorder forever.  While on backorder, we received the canopy, which was way too much horizontal stripe action for the room.  So, the canopy is going to live in the playroom-that-was-intended-to-be-a-media-room (it will fit better in there too) and James will have more room to move around in his bedroom now.

This shower curtain also comes in yellow and white stripe which would make a pretty happy bathroom!
