Art via Etsy and Lara Casey Shop

Etsy and online sources are a great find for affordable art and I finally had the chance to order a few pieces when thinking about a gallery wall for my office.  I bought a collection of typography, abstract art, watercolor, and illustrations.   I don't have that much wall space in my office though since the Ikea Expedit takes up a big chunk of the largest wall, I have a large window, and three doors.  So, only two of my prints are actually hanging on the wall!

This "Love Never Fails" print is from online retailer Lara Casey Shop in gold foil lettering (8x10) hung inside a matted Target frame.  It's just leaning against a mirror on my sideboard.

The frame holding the picture of James is also from Target and the orb is from Home Goods (spray painted gold).

Laura Casey also designs these gold foil prints:

My 6x6 abstract print is from Prima Creative Studio and she has some awesome work in her Etsy shop.  My little piece isn't framed, just sitting in an acrylic stand (that came with a desk calendar) in my bookshelf next to a jack I spray painted black.

But I also like it propped up with a candle sitting on a few books.

A few of my other faves from her shop are:

I found "Be Still" on Etsy at Morgan Smith Designs for just $6 in an 8x10 print that I cut out and pinned to my inspiration board.

The gold lips are from Gilded Mint and the woman is from Yulia Puchko.

Gilded Mint makes a pretty cute flamingo print and the coral is cool.

The illustrated tiger is from Ella Cute and sits in a Crate and Barrel mirrored frame in our living room bookshelf.

I'm also a fan of her Cheetah, Fox, and Bird drawings.

And for the kitchen I found this fun "Without Ice Cream there would be darkness and chaos" on Etsy via Old English Company.  This is so true for me! :)  Sadly, this frame had been hanging on the wall empty since December!!

They also make these:

What sources do you like for art?  Are there any Etsy shops I need to check out?

Elina Dahl's happy home

This apartment belongs to talented Swedish designer Elina Dahl (currently for sale). It looks like such a happy home. I love the choice of colours in the sitting room, and Elina's wonderful prints through out.

Styling: Klara Markbåge, photography: Karin Foberg for Älskade hem

We need a post sorter like this in our home - our post is soooo messy with piles of it all over the breakfast bar. Someone once told me that you should only ever handle an item you receive in the post once; i.e. as soon as you open it, file it / recycle it/ whatever immediately. How are you with this?! I'm hopeless despite best efforts!

If you like Elina's prints, you could try your luck in her give-away to win a print of your choice this week. And while we're in the mood for competitions (always) there's a great one over at Nest to win an original 1227 Anglepoise Desk Lamp here.

Have a lovely day!

Kid Gallery Wall

I've wanted to add a gallery wall to our home for a long time, but have gotten totally intimidated and overwhelmed because they seem like a lot of work and I don't feel like I really know how to put them together.  When we changed up my son's nursery and put the bed where the changing table used to be, I had a huge blank wall that I knew would be perfect for a gallery wall.  And something about it being in a kid's room seemed to take the pressure off.  It's not perfect, and it's not necessarily supposed to be, but since taking these pictures, I can already tell I'll be messing with it and changing it up.

Here's how the wall looked with four symmetrical frames in the nursery.

And here's the new gallery wall.  I started with frames I already had around the house, then searched my computer for photos we'd like to have on the walls (no small task narrowing photos down when you have a million cute ones to choose from), then ran to Target to buy about 8 more frames in the sizes and colors (silver, black, and white) they had at my store.  Sort of random, I know.

I've read many wise words about laying your frames out on your floor and arranging them how you like BEFORE you start nailing into the wall, and I do sorta wish I did that now, but at the time, I just wanted to get it up (twss Cass) and there wasn't that much room on my son's floor with all the toys everywhere.   So we did end up with a little bit of a funky gallery wall.  I wanted it asymetrical and loose, but the left side is kinda driving me crazy so I'm sure you'll see it revised soon.

But I love the pictures we I chose!  After the wall was complete I lay in bed with my son and we talked about all the photos and what was happening in each one.  We've got almost all of our close family represented and his best friend from school too.  Every single day when I pick up James from school, his little girlfriend comes up to me and says, "James is my friend." His teachers tell me they are inseparable.

I asked James which picture was his favorite and he said, "The white one with Mickey Mouse."  Glad I tore that page from the book!

He asked me which one was my favorite and I said, "The one of you and me with the words, 'I love you so much.'"

On his dresser are a few more photos and pops of red.

He's really into the old-time Donald Duck and Chip-n-Dale cartoons so I found these pictures in an old book at Half Priced Books and framed them.  I love watching these with him- they're the ones where Donald is all grouchy, so fun.

And the little birdie my friend gave me has moved into James' room for now.

The glossy red tray is from West Elm

Do you have a gallery wall in your house?  Did you carefully plan out the positioning of every frame and object or just kind of eyeball it (like me)?

Garden art

Why restrict art to the indoors? (actually I can think of a few reasons....). I do love how this piece adds to the garden though, very cool!

Would you hang art in the garden?

The incredible monochrome home of Therese Sennerholt

One of the wonderful things about editing an interior design blog is that I get to look at beautiful homes everyday in the name of work (at least that's what I tell my husband when he catches me on Pinterest again!).And every once in a while I come across a home which takes my breath away. This is one of the them. You may have seen it before but hey, you can't tire of a space like this! It's the home of Swedish art director /typographer Therese Sennerholt. I am a great fan of her work and own several of her prints. Her home really reflects her work in terms of colour (black and white) and style.

A relaxed family home in Gothenburg

Hej hej and happy Friday! The week has flown by! Here on My Scandinavian Home it's been a week of relaxed, bohemian homes hasn't it? It wasn't planned, it just happened seemed to happen that way. This Gothenburg home belongs to Nanna and her family and I feel it fits in perfectly! Nanna writes a lovely blog called 'Så fint Jag vill' ('As nice as I want') which is full of really wonderful photography documenting her days on maternity leave at home, it's definitely worth heading over and taking a look. Here are a few snaps from her lovely blog.

I love the art wall, it reminds me very much of my own one in fact. And also the wallpaper in the kitchen dining area. It makes me wonder if we should change our blackboard wall for wallpaper.....shhh don't tell my husband he'll go nuts! You can see a complete interview with Nanna and more pictures here.

Before I head off for the weekend I wanted to share some fab links with you from around the web.

If you like vintage Nordic...errr hello....you'll like this home.

Speaking of homes (always) my home was featured in a guest post over at Like Want Need last week. it was the first time I've shown a home tour of my own home so I was a little nervous!

This weekend I have my eye on these fab new cushions at LET LIV, the thing is, which to choose?!

I recently won a fab and cosy Dot Grey Merino Blanket in a give-away at Vosges Paris and now I see they are giving away another cosy blanket here. Hurry, hurry, hurry!

And finally, If you're thinking of brightening your home up with some pretty flowers this weekend, how about Quince?

Have a wonderful weekend all, up to anything fun?
