Yay for Spring!

Just as I was thinking it was time to start adding some Spring and Easter decor to our home, I came across Centsational Girl’s invitation to join in her blog party “Fair Weather Forum: Spring Decorating and Cleaning” Perfect timing!   At our home, some things just say “Spring”:

I pulled out these little Hobby Lobby pails and added hay, decorated eggs, and “Happy Easter” toppers for a festive, casual display on our breakfast table.

DSC_0120  imageI fell in love with this first little guy last year at Hobby Lobby.  I think he’s just precious with his big ‘ole ears, little hands tucked under his chin, and giant feet:)  He’s made his home on a shelf in our media center this season.imageAnd can you believe West Elm was selling this sequined bunny for $30 at Christmas, but come spring, he’s marked down to $5?!  Bling, bling little bunny!  He’s pretty comfortable on the kitchen counter.

Of course, nothing says Spring like fresh flowers!  My personal favorite is yellow, and this bunch adds a dose of cheer to our dining room buffet.  I’m thinking that pot might meet some chalkboard paint in the near future:)

Week In Review

Headboards ready to go to a client's lake house...
I really enjoy all size projects but there is something about from-the-ground-up jobs that is so satisfying. I love to see the progress and it is always exciting when walls go up. This was taken Thursday and it was such a gorgeous day, I love being outside on days like this one.
Oh we have been waiting for you, thank you for finally arriving...
This is going to make a little girl very happy, or at least her room very happy...(the mirror is not from Home Goods, just in case you are looking at the bag in the background)
Glimpse of a custom lantern...
Not for a client, which means I had someone else in mind. Someone who needs to be saving money for other things that aren't planters. Why am I so drawn to anything with lions?
Looking at stone for a custom table...
Where does the time go? I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

New Additions Under $30

I am so, so happy for Friday!  We have a busy day planned, some contractors coming to the house early for a simple mirror project that I can’t wait to show you next week!   And since I like to keep y’all in the loop when I find cute things for the home for not a lot of money, here are some of my favorites lately:

First up are these quatrefoil reversible handtowels from TJ Maxx.  I bought the bath towels too, but they weren’t very absorbent, so they’re back in the laundry pile.  The bath towels were $8.

These West Elm chevron accessories are holding my toothbrush/paste and contact case.   The tumbler was $8 and the little tray was $6.  I almost got these instead.

This white lacquer tray from the Container Store was $10.  Although I really don’t like to keep beauty products on the bathroom counter, it’s convenient to have a few daily essentials close at hand.

Next up – James’ bathroom.  I just picked up this fun, green soap dispenser from Crate & Barrel for $7.  It comes in other colors too.

(couldn’t resist adding this shot that captured James’ reflection in the mirror!)

Also in James’ bathroom is this wooden crate I found at Michaels for around $10-15.  It’s not new, but I love it for containing all of his bath stuff.

And in his nursery, my “You Are My Sunshine” print from Pretty Smitten ($18) has finally been hung.  I had a hard time finding a simple, shiny silver frame, but lucked out at Wal-Mart and found this one for $10!

Speaking of Wal-Mart, these faux green apples were only $1 each!

But check out this fun elephant that was $15 at Homegoods!  How cheery!  It will probably live on the white dresser in the future.

And finally, Z Gallerie has these awesome round crocodile trays for $30.  They also come in lime, aqua, silver and white.

Happy, happy weekend to you my friends!

Adding Some Art

Because we moved from a dark, dreary townhouse, our current home was specifically designed to have plenty of windows to allow lots of natural light to flow into the rooms.  Also, our house, specifically downstairs, is kind of “open” without much wall space, so there isn’t a lot of room for hanging art and photos.

We do have a PERFECT wall for art, however, there is one little problem.  Somehow, our thermostat was placed practically in the middle of that wall!

image

Our builder/friend stopped by tonight (he lives on our street:) and told us that the thermostat (and ceiling fan remote) can be relocated to another wall!!!!  He ordered us a new, wireless model that can be installed elsewhere as soon as it arrives (and then we can remove the current one).

Even James is happy about the news:)

So, as soon as that happens, I can hang my new piece of “half-off-floor-sample-and-yes-I-understand-it-cannot-be-returned” art that I just got from Crate & Barrel.  I had been looking for something just like this for awhile now, and this massive 44-inch square piece is the perfect size for the wall.  (Sorry about the poor nighttime photo that just doesn’t do this piece justice).  I promise to show you the finished result ASAP!! :)
