TGIF

I am not going to lie, it was hard to get the ole brain working this week after a long vacation. It was one of those weeks that called for a diet Grapico...every...day. I love D.G. So, I can't muster up a full post but I did want to share with you my newest love along the Grapico line....Essie Bahama Mama.Looks great; it is not purple, not pink, not deep red, it is somewhere in the middle. Also, I love this room is different than most you see, on the fun side to get the weekend started...

Girl’s Baby Shower {Owl}

Some friends and I hosted my sister-in-law’s baby shower over the weekend.  My sista is the best and has a cool, funky sense of style.  She’s having a girl, Miss V, and doing the nursery in an owl theme.  Here’s some pictures we snapped at the shower.

The entryway was adorned with a clothesline holding adorable onesies.

Inside the formal dining room is where the gifts were stored until time to open.

All of the guests signed future birthday cards to be opened by Ms. V on her 1st, 5th, 10th, 16th, 18th, and 21st birthday.  I can’t take credit for that idea, but I thought it was fun and everyone enjoyed writing special sentiments.

Of course we played, “Guess Mommy’s Tummy Size”  (how cute is that colored yarn?!)

And ate yummy treats (one of the creative hostesses designed these cute little food display cards and the invite).  The shower was from 2-4, so we made appetizers (mini quiches, chicken salad croissant sandwiches, and fruit skewers).  Mimosas and wine were also served.

Jelly beans filled these decorative jars from Home Goods.

The cupcake toppers were from an Etsy shop (I’ll have to ask for specifics and update later).

Pretty flowers were a must.

Even the itty-bittiest guests had fun!

Color Confusion

I’m having such a hard time deciding on a paint color for the back of the media cabinet in the living room.  My husband is color blind and no help at all.  Thank God for blog friends!!  Here’s what I’m working with.

As you can see, it’s a pretty neutral color palette and I want to inject a little color.  I’m planning to remove some of the brown accessories and replace them with silver and white. These aqua decorative balls from Target are my “color inspiration.”   I will also be adding colored/patterned?? drapes in the future.

Here are the colors I found in the Sherwin William’s color deck that I thought might be nice.  Our walls are painted the tabbed color, so I was using that for comparison.

Then I “happened” to be in Pottery Barn, and they sell large sheets ($5- ouch!) that are samples of Benjamin Moore paint colors.  If you take the purchased sample to Benjamin Moore, you get $5 off a gallon of paint.  I bought the samples of these colors.

And started playing with how they’d look in my media cabinet.  The silver bowl is a new accessory I found at Home Goods.

So far, I think I like the darker blue on the middle shelf.  Is the dark blue on the upper shelf too dark?  The pale blue is too pale.  Here’s how the Benjamin Moore colors compare to the Sherwin Williams’.

I’m still considering these, but it’s so hard to decide.

Any thoughts, suggestions??  *help*!!

Blog Conference 2011

image

Is anyone planning to attend Blissdom 2011??  It’s January 26-28, 2011 in Nashville, TN.  I really want to go so we can all meet and chat in person!

What do you think?  What have you heard about the conference?  Are you in?

Sticks & Stones

A few decorating touches have been added recently at our house..  For the living room, I found some tall sticks at Hobby Lobby ($11 a bunch, 3 bunches) for the large floor vases.  Stuffing the vases with loads of paper gave the sticks more height.  I think the new addition really pulls the eye up.  To see the entire room, go here.

The formal dining room really needs some help, but I’m not quite ready to tackle that room yet.  We have a table and chairs, but that’s it.  Pretty plain looking, so I added a table runner and a few decorative jars for the time being.  The runner, jars, and rocks are from Target.  I may buy another runner and sew them together so they fit the length of our table.  The candles are from Crate & Barrel.

Next up, paint the back of the media cabinet and rearrange the accessories.   Stay tuned!
