Trouble For My Budget Is Afoot

I ordered these but when they came they were too big- in every way. So even though they were cute I sent them back.I was feeling good about saving the money until I came across these...
They look much better in person but the store did not have my size so I am waiting for them to come from here. Last year when I injured my back I basically lived in a pair of Born boots which were such a blessing, I hope these do the same for me this year. I will let you know how it goes.

Have a wonderful (long) weekend!

Baby James {6 Months}

My sweet little guy will be six months old on Saturday.  Six. Months. Old.  It’s so true what they say . . . makes me glad I am able to stay home with him.  A roly-poly baby is in our midst.  As soon as James turned 5 months, he started rolling from his back to his tummy, usually on the right side.  Now he’s also going from tummy to back.  He started doing baby “push-ups” and can lift his whole chest off the floor and get on his knees.  He’s “swimming” and gets around on the floor pretty well, although he goes backwards!  We had to add the bumper to the crib because his arms and legs were getting stuck in the bars.

In the last month, James:

  • went from sleeping swaddled on his back to a side sleeper to a stomach sleeper (so stressful for this new mommy!)

  • started going to sleep in his crib without being rocked to sleep first (at night)

  • scoots backwards

  • reaches for things, holds things, mouths everything (especially loves “eating” mom and dad’s face!)

  • is so interested in everything going on around him

  • can identify his bottle and reaches for it, opens his mouth, and tries to hold it himself

  • watched cartoons for the first time and was mesmerized

  • recognizes mom and dad

  • got his first tooth!

He has a doctor appointment soon so I’ll update this post with his height and weight- but he’s a big guy- I’m guessing 18 pounds.

James seriously has the best temperament.  He wakes up happy, just talking to himself in his crib until I go and get him.  He’s always got the biggest smile for me- I look forward to seeing it every morning.

He’s now eaten: rice cereal, apples, pears, sweet potatoes, carrots, bananas, and sweet peas.  Um, don’t think he liked the sweet peas very much.

But the sweet potatoes are pretty good

Here we are preparing to eat in the Bumbo chair.

He still enjoys the exersaucer.  Look at those little hands!  That face!  The Hair!!

Tried out the high chair, but it’s still a bit too big for him.  Check out those pj’s – size 12 months!  And stands SO BIG with mommy.

Here he is on the day I discovered his first tooth coming in (Aug 31)!

Framed Monogram Tutorial

After painting our media center, I needed to rearrange and accessorize the shelves.  I put an 8x10 frame on one of the shelves, but didn’t have that perfect photo for the frame.  Lauren at Simply LKJ suggested I use scrapbook paper to create a monogram for the frame.  Great idea Lauren!  Here’s my framed monogram and how I did it.

Monogram 015

Here’s the 8x10 frame I was working with.  The people in the photo look nice and seem to be having fun, but I don’t know them!

Monogram 004

I found a trellis patterned scrapbook paper to use as the background.

I simply fit the paper to the frame and cut.

Then I played around with the fonts on my computer until I found one I thought would look good in a monogram.  I used Footlight MT Light in 600 point font for the “A” and 200 point font for the “M” and “J”, then cut them onto colored paper.

To give the letters a layered background I added a blue and white patterned strip of paper and a yellow strip.  After determining where the letters would go, I affixed them with scrapbook tape.

Trim the ends and then place into the frame.

And here it is in my media cabinet.

These would be especially nice with fabric and ribbon in lieu of scrapbook paper, but I didn’t have any- just used what was on hand.  So, this project was free for me (minus the cost of the new frame that I got at Home Goods for about $8.00).

*Note, I painted the wall behind the television also and updated the Media Cabinet Makeover post here, showing how I did it, and explaining how to get clean, crisp paint lines.

On The List...

As I was wondering what to blog about, Rachel Zoe was on in the background and I looked up to see a hotel room that instantly grabbed me. Turns out the room was in the Covent Garden Hotel in London. I could not find that exact room on their site but I did find plenty of other rooms that have me wanting to pack my bag right now...
Definitely on my list of places to stay at some point. All images Covent Garden
