An apartment with a zest for display!

There's something about this Gothenburg apartment which really stands out. The high ceilings and original features from 1907 and the mid century touches certainly play a part in it's fabulousness. But what I notice most is the shelving and other display units and how they differs in style throughout every corner of the home! Whether it's String, IKEA or Vitra, the designers have really thought about what they want and need and the best way to display treasured items.

Stadshem

Which style of shelving do you like the most?

In my bedroom we have a really high sloped ceiling and couldn't find the right shelving to fit the space. So in the end my husband set about designing and building a custom made unit complete with hooks and suspension wires (you can see a glimpse of it here)! Just goes to show, there's always a solution!

Have a lovely day!

The cool home of a Danish architect

It's Friday, the sun's shining and things are hotting up here in Malmö! Hope they are where you are too?! Just over the bridge in Denmark is this oh so cool Danish home belonging to architect Friederike Faller. Friedericke and his family have decorated the space with muted tones and made maximum use of every square inch (check out the high storage in the hall, kitchen, sitting room and dining room and the desks in the bedroom). I also love the way Mikkel Adsbol has photographed it  - the angles, the light. A perfect home tour for a Friday don't you think?!

Home: Friedericke Faller. Photographer: Mikkel Adsbol (with kind permission). Boligliv. Via Decordots with thanks.

Anything that stands out to you?

I love the rope ladder on the bunk bed - my girls have been asking for a slide on theirs (Hahaha. No). But actually this could be a great alternative. Incidentally if you're looking for a spring / summer wardrobe for your little ones this weekend, Smallable are giving away 20 Petit Bateau outfits, 16 Finger in the nose and 5 Imps and Elves outfits in an amazing Grand Prize Draw throughout April. I'm all over it!

Back to the all important home tour - if you loved this Danish home, you might also like to check out these spaces: a Danish oasis in Cannes, the beautiful home of a Danish designer, and since it's the weekend, a pretty Danish home by the sea. *Sigh*, I could live in all of these, couldn't you?

For those of you with a bare wall at home - I love the scalloped walls shown in this post from Weekday Carnival, also master of the Geometric wall. Bare walls no longer!

And a quick reminder, don't forget to enter the give-away to win the t-shirt soft bed linen, tomorrow's the last day! I'll be back Sunday with the give-away winner announcement and a rare Sunday post (with a fabulous home tour I might add!). So see you then and have a wonderful Friday / Saturday!

Beautiful strap by a Stockholm designer

When it comes to bug bearers in our home, the one thing my family and I can't seem to get a grip on is our post. There's a constant messy pile of it on our bar table. My sister once told me you should only ever see an item of post once, i.e. you open it,  file it (or recycle it) and then it's dealt with. We've never quite managed this rule. And then recently I came across the Mathilda Strap designed by Stockhom based Mathilda Clahr and I think our post peeve could finally be solved.

Designer: Mathilda Clahr, Photography: Elin Strömberg, Stylist Josefin Hååg

Designed by Stockholm based designer Mathilda Clahr the leather strap comes in three colours - black, dark brown and light beige and can be used to store magazines and other papers, as a hook for your coat or bag or if you're feeling really crafty, to upcycle an old chest of drawers with the strap as handles.

These pictures were shot in Josefin Hååg's lovely workspace of 20 Kvadrat blog (I recently showed the rest of her wonderful home here).

What do you think? Could you find a use for this in your home? I'm sold!

Tuesday DIY: a fab walk-in wardrobe on a shoe-string

In the first chapter of The Happiness Project, Gretchen Rubin talks about how de-cluttering and organising your home is the first step to feeling happier. I have to say, I admire people who make organising spaces look so effortless. One girl who knows her stuff is the talented interior designer Nina Holst from the Norwegian blog Stylizimo. She created this fab DIY walk-in-wardrobe on a shoe-string budget.

Nina Holst, Stylizimo with kind permission

I spy two MALM chest of drawers, the STOLMEN used as a clothing rack, BYGEL which nina spray painted herself in gold, and two LEDSJÖ lamps all from IKEA.

To read more about how Nina created this space you can check out the original post here.

I would love to organise my jewellery and sunglasses in the same way in my dressing room. Thanks so much for the idea Nina! For more cool wardrobe inspiration you can always check here.

And if you're up for other DIY ideas this week you might want to check out this simple dotted wall, a cloud shaped door mat or a wall clock using a leather belt. So simple yet so cool.

We are traveling South (in Thailand) tomorrow so I am handing the reigns to Dagny of Icelandic blog Feel Inspired for the day. Have a lovely day and I'll be back Thursday!

Clear storage the Danish way

After a little surfing around today I came across these images from the fab Danish brand Nomess via Norwegian blog Stylizimo. I love perspex storage, so practical yet so smart. Not only can you find everything you're looking for but it's also a great way to show off your beloved shoes / jewellery / hats & scarves etc while keeping them neat and tidy. Oh, and the styling around them is pretty cool and inspirational too. Thanks Nomess!

On another note, there's something wrong with my man. He keeps saying yes to everything. I'm getting nervous. Yesterday he said I could paint one entire wall of the kitchen in blackboard paint. Now I'm too scared to do it.....what?!

Vintage and mid-century drinks trolleys for a refreshing Valentine's Day!

Hellooo! And happy Valentine's day ♥♥♥ Any romantic plans? Me, I was thinking of enjoying a refreshing glass or two with my man. Which got me thinking. There's been so much inspiration lately on beautiful vintage drinks trolleys. We were given a fab mid-century drinks trolley ♥♥♥ by my parents-in-law a few year's ago and I finally got around to photographing it. Sadly it doesn't carry any cocktail hour specials!

A quick guide to wear things are from....the chrome Dreyfuss 500 phone is from Graham and Green. The plant is a Corokia Silver Ghost which I once wrote a post about here. I bought the pot and plant from Gouteva in Malmö. My stack of magazines are all past editions of Elle Decoration UK. The cushions in the chair are from Designer's Guild and the black and white throw is called VILMIE RUND from IKEA. Sometimes mid-century drinks trolley's pop up at Lauritz. You're so welcome to pin these pics.

And for those of you who prefer your happy hour drink closer to hand, how about some of these lovely vintage mini bars?!

Friday DIY- circular and square basket shelving

It's Frrrrrrrriday!! And here's a DIY project to look forward to over the weekend perhaps? The bloggers from IKEA's Livet Hemma have made this set of circular and square shelves from IKEA's NÄSUM Kista Bananfiber baskets! A DIY take on the Finnish company Muuto's circular shelving system? Incidentally a friend of mine has the Muuto graphite version in her little girls bedroom and they look super cool.

Delightful children's rooms with great storage ideas

Morning! There's nothing like a lovely children's room to brighten up the day. My little girls are only teeny (3 and 1!) and share a room (i thought it would be lovely for them to natter away after the lights have gone out). The problem is they've so many 'things'!! And we who love interior design know that lots of little things don't always make for a pretty room.  but these delightful rooms show that there are ways to store and be practical and most importantly pretty!!!

I do love me a bit of vintage children's room. Only one pic here today, but there's lots of wonderful inspiration out there. For example, check out this post at wonderful blog the boo and the boy. I believe that no home is complete without at least one item older than yourself, what do you reckon?
