Fabric Canvas Wall Art

While perusing fabric for my living room drapes, I fell in love with this beauty.

Fabric Art 042

I love the lime greens, the whimsy of the birds and how the gray keeps it from looking too feminine even though it’s a floral print.  In an effort to showcase this fabric somewhere in my home, I decided to incorporate it into our dining room design by turning it into a piece of art.

Ultimately, I think I will add two square mirrors to either side of the art as well as neutral drapes so that I can change out the art and runner as the mood strikes.

To make mine, I used:

  • Fabric
  • Canvas
  • Iron
  • Spray Adhesive (optional)
  • Staple gun
  • Teeth and nails (for hanging)

I started by ironing my fabric to remove any wrinkles.

  I used a 50 x 40 inch canvas because I wanted a large piece.

I figured out where I wanted the fabric to lay, then sprayed a light coat of spray adhesive to the canvas and covered it with my fabric.

Then I began stapling the fabric to the wooden frame.

After all sides were stapled, we added teeth to the back for purposes of hanging.

And then hung her up!

I also made a coordinating runner with stitch witchery for the table.

It’s feeling so springy in here right now!  Can’t wait to add the mirrors, drapes, rug, sideboard . . . ha!   Always a work in progress!

But looking so much better than what we started with!

Don't Pull The Blinds Yet

It seems the world must be telling me something since I keep coming across blind ideas. Love these from Martha Stewart...Above the shade is stenciled and below is wallpaper.
Not a roller shade but I do like the simplicity of these cafe curtains.
This is actually leather. I included it because I love the use of brightly colored leather in an unexpected place.
Again, not shades but I do love how whimsical the pom pom fringe is on these sheers...
Okay and one more non shade but I can't pass up panels with stenciling along one side.
More shade ideas posted here and here.

Party Preparations

Hi there!  I hope y’all had a wonderful weekend!  Mine was full of house cleaning (me on the inside and hubby working on cutting the grass and mulching the yard), projects, and preparing for James’ first birthday party.  My precious baby is turning one year old this weekend!!!!

I can’t believe it- but I think I’m ready to celebrate!  I’m so thankful that Pretty Smitten and A Blissful Nest have blessed us with some party decor!  Here’s a little preview:)

Quiet Time- Child of God

I have posted this before, but it is so comforting I wanted to post it again....

Remember WHOSE you are. You are God's child

Remember WHAT God has promised you - the priceless gift of eternal life

Remember WHO will see you through -God will protect you until you reach your final destination: heaven.

Remember WHY God lets you go through trials - God wants to test the genuineness of your faith so that your life will result in praise and glory when Jesus returns. Although it is great to spend time on a "spiritual mountaintop" we cannot stay there forever. More often than not, at the bottom of that mountain lies cold, hard reality. Yet fruit grows best in the valleys not on the mountaintops. Our greatest character development takes place when we take what we have learned on the mountaintop and put it into practice in the valley.

Thanks again to Kara for sharing this with me.

Revisiting An Old Idea

Do you remember this wall from this nursery? It is from one of the first nurseries I did a few years ago and it is still one of my favorites. This wall is made up of framed book pages set on top of decorative paper.
Recently a client mentioned recreating this and I jumped at using this idea again. The original paper was from Hobby Lobby so back to the source I went.....
Turns out there is plenty of paper to choose from still. I would use any of these in a nursery behind book pages or black and white pictures...
You can never go wrong with simple polka dots.
All of these can found in the scrap book area. There are so many cute options to choose from I had to stop myself from taking 50 pictures. Also, I was looking for a specific room but there are several options that could work in an old kids/teenagers room behind pictures.
Have a fabulous weekend!
