Organized Kitchen // Bread in a Basket
We are definitely not a carb-free family. In fact, we have so much bread that it won't fit into a typical bread bin. I've tried putting the bread in a drawer (that didn't last long) and in the pantry (but who wants to walk to the pantry to get a piece of bread to toast?). So, the bread pretty much was just sitting out on the kitchen counter next to the toaster.
What is all that bread anyway? We've got Mom and son's 100% whole wheat, thick cut brown sugar bread for French toast, Dad's Oatnut bread, James' raisin cinnamon bread, James' Moon Pops (kinda like a rice cake), Hawaiian hot dog buns, and James' mini blueberry muffins. Whew!
I have tried putting all the bread in a giant bowl, but it never seemed large enough. Then, at Homegoods, I found a large, oval shaped basket (in a beautiful greyish color) that I knew could hold all this bread.
I lined the basket with three hand towels and figured I can switch them out or add decorative fabric in the future. The muted colors work well in my mostly white kitchen, but a pop of color would really be fun here too. Of course, you could even spray paint the basket.
This looks so much better than that miss-mash we had before!
How are you storing all of your bread? Do you use those bread bins with the lid? When I tried that, half the bread was still sitting outside the bin.

If you get a chance, I'd love to hear your mom's best advice to you, and you can share it HERE. I shared mine! :)

A beautiful Montreal oasis
I once stayed in a finca in Mallorca which had a beautiful green swimming pool. The side of the pool was lined with lavender which danced with white butterflies and beyond was a spectacular view of the Tramuntana mountains. With every stroke down the pool I became more and more relaxed. To this day I vowed if I ever get a pool it will be green or midnight blue with plants and flowers as poolside entertainment. This has inspired today's post from the garden of Mario Lafrenais in Montreal styled by Nicola Marc and photographed by Angus Mcritchie.
PS What's your view on pools? Do you have one? Would you like one?

I think my facvourite thing about this garden is despite the surrounding buildings, Mario has managed to create a wall of greenery. A real city oasis. And of course there's that pool, those moroccan lamps, the waterfall feature, the yellow doors.....what do you like about this courtyard? |

Apartamento decorado con palets / Apartment decorated with pallets

Old Love...New Tricks
It has been a long time since I discussed my love for Thom Filcia but it still lives on and it was nice to see his recent spread in Elle Decor...
This is one of the rooms that if you look at it closely you would not think it would work, but it does.
Under Sink Organization with Washi Tape
Under my bathroom sink might look very similar to what you've got going on with yours- a few bins filled with extra bath items and an albeit necessary, but in-the-way and not-so-pretty big, white pipe. And those two other smaller, but equally unsightly, pipes too. Please tell me I'm not the only one that is bothered by this. Not bothered like I think about it all day, but bothered enough to try to make it prettier.
So, I busted out the paint and washi tape . . .
Call me crazy, but with all this fun washi tape laying around, I thought, why not?? Some people have asked, and I've gotten mine mostly online from cutetape.com and wishywashi.com. I'm currently displaying mine on a cupcake stand in my office.
How cute is this little wooden tape dispenser?! It's from Target and came with a few rolls of washi tape too.
But back to the sink. First, I painted the back wall and the two smaller pipes a glossy pale pink since that's the paint color I had left over from painting my closet island. I painted those two pipes to make them "disappear."
And then I just started wrapping that white pipe with the tape, trying to make sure the colors looked good together. It didn't take very long, maybe 15 to 20 minutes.
As for the organization, the clear bins (I think from The Container Store) are great for letting you see what you have and keeping things together. I also lined the bottom with cork paper.
I'm not a huge product junkie, but I like to make sure I stock up on the necessities, like my face cleanser, shaving cream/razors, and toothpaste.
And also body wash. Taller things like hairspray and lotions are also kept on this side.
I decanted the Q-tips and cotton balls into decorative glass urns just because it's pretty. For everyday use, I have some on the bathroom counter.
It may seem silly, but now when I open my bathroom sink doors, I'm happy to be greeted by a cheerful, nicely organized space. I'll take all the cheerfulness I can get. :)
This little washi tape project got me curious how YOU use your washi tape. Send me a picture on Instagram (@honeywerehome) with hashtag #honeywerehomewashi and I'll feature my favorite picks next week. You don't need a blog to shoot me a pic, but I'll link to your blog if I feature your photo. Or you can post a picture on my Facebook page. Thanks for sharing!

Stunning apartment in monochrome and wood
Hello and happy Monday! I do love to start the week off with a bang and I think this Polish apartment certainly does the trick! It's actually only 29 sqm but looks bigger thanks to the light colours and clever architecture. I love the plywood throughout, in a small space it's important to keep to a theme and have a consistent thread through out. What a fab space!
