HWH Featured {November 2010}

Can you believe it’s DECEMBER already?  Where did this year go??  For us, 2010 has been quite a year with having a baby (March); starting his blog (June); moving into the new house (July); and quitting my job (August).  Whew!  I think I need a nap!

Today I’m showing some love to these blogs who featured Honey We’re Home last month:)  Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!  If you’ve featured HWH recently, please let me know so I can highlight your blog too!

Here’s to December friends-

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Faux Bois Floor

I truly love when a room has some aspect that is clearly well thought out and unique but not too serious. These faux bois floors in William Diamond's Hampton House have that tongue-in-cheek feel. Love them, I am sure they are even more amazing in person.

Christmas Vignette

While the Christmas tree is coming along slowly but surely, I at least got the color pallet figured out.  Instead of a red, white, and blue American flag holiday home, we now have turquoise, silver, white, and red.  Nice huh?  Here’s a little preview of those colors in a playful, festive vignette I put together in our bar area.

First I filled the glass vases (from Target and Home Goods) with faux snow and ornaments.  Then I wrapped “presents” and made a few bows.

Snowflake ornaments from Hobby Lobby hang from above.

Would you believe I did all of this and snapped some of the photos during James’ afternoon nap?!  It’s true!  Halfway through with wrapping paper and ribbon everywhere I started thinking, “He’s gonna wake up any minutes and be all over this!”  But no:)

I love this “naughty” and “nice” gift wrap I found at Wal-Mart last year.   The other wrap is from Hobby Lobby and The Container Store.

You say it doesn’t snow in Texas?

Oh, I forgot to mention that Jimmy picked up a few poinsettias at Home Depot over the weekend.  See that little guy peeking out at the end? :)

Back To The Real World

Whew, I am back! I hope y'all had as wonderful of a Thanksgiving as we did. I have to hit the ground running today so I will quickly share some random pics from my camera...First a picture taken when we were trying to get a Christmas card photo. Not really sure what we are going to use yet...Patrick and I have matching boots, completely unintentional, but we did get a lot of comments while in Nashville. This picture makes me laugh...
Usually we stick to white lights inside and out, but for the past few years I have been wanting to use the old, big, color lights. As soon as these came on I was transported back 20 years. LOVE LOVE LOVE...
Our street puts up trees in each yard with white lights so when you go outside all you can see are white trees up and down the street. It is magical and one of my favorite things about my neighborhood. Don't have a picture of it but here is the beginning of the porch...
And look...any early Christmas gift to myself arrived while I was gone. Oh yes, I have subscribed and I am excited.
Last but not least I slowly caught up on some magazine reading while away and I am obsessed with this room in the September Veranda by Michael S. Smith. Sorry, I am too lazy right now to scan this in...
Back to the real world we go, I hope you have a fabulous week!

{DIY} Christmas Tray

What a nice loooong weekend!  It felt really long to me- in a good way!  We had a great Thanksgiving followed by some decorating and a little shopping for more holiday decorations.  Have you been bustling around decorating your home?  Did you at least get your tree up?  We did, but it’s still a work in progress.  I used red, blue, silver and white in the tree and, at first, it looked like an American flag.  Now, I love the flag and all, but that’s not the look I was going for!  I’ve been adding more turquoise and silver ornaments and I think it’s looking better now.  Also, James is like a moth to a flame with the tree, so there’s really no ornaments on the bottom quarter of it.  Oh, and part of the lights are out!  Might chalk it up to ‘character” this year!

But, there are other holiday touches that are much less complex and took mere minutes to accomplish.  Yay for those!!

You know when you do or see a project and then think, “Oh, you could so easily change that out with the seasons or for the holidays!”?  Well, that’s what I did recently with our living room tray.

image

Remember this tray?  It was originally a plain, brown tray from Target that I snazzed up by lining it with black and white chevron fabric.

image

We use the tray on our living room ottoman to hold the remote, drinks, magazines and such.

image

In light of the holidays, the tray got a mini makeover.  I swapped out the fabric for some wrapping paper that has a special message for Santa;)  I think I’ll be on the lookout for some cute holiday fabric too in case I want to change it again.

I added ribbon to the paper, then covered the paper and ribbon with a thin piece of plexiglass (thanks for the great idea Lauren- and have you seen her holiday decor?  So gorgeous!).

The plexiglass is perfect for preventing the fabric or paper from getting spills, etc.  I got mine at Hobby Lobby and had them cut it for $1.00 per cut.  On top of the plexiglass, I affixed an inexpensive green bow.

Here’s how the tray looks on our ottoman when James isn’t around!

I’m curious what holiday decorating you did over the weekend, if any.  Or were you shopping the weekend away?!  I’m realizing that it takes much longer to do the decorating with a baby:)
